FM.E Manipulative Skills

As the child develops, he learns to manipulate objects in an ever-growing number of ways. There is a sense in which most of the skills in the Grasping, Putting, Drawing and Problem Solving and Puzzles Sequences could be called manipulative skills. So too could many of the skills in the Personal and Social Sequences, eating, washing, grooming and dressing involve some degree of manipulation or manual dexterity.

The skills we have selected for this sequence are all Fine Motor skills which involve using objects in a certain way to achieve a desired effect. They are all skills used in play, and contribute to the child’s ability to make things or to make things happen. When taught alongside skills from other sequences, these skills all serve to broaden and extend the child’s use of the objects around him.

Below we list all the skills in this sequence.
