RL.A.15 LISTENS TO ONE PERSON TALK IN A NOISY ENVIRONMENT
When your child is first learning to attend, it will be very hard for her to maintain her attention in a busy, noisy environment. But as her attending skills develop, she will learn to single out the sounds that are of most interest to her, and focus on those to the exclusion of everything else.
Most children learn this skill without any special teaching, provided that opportunities are given. It’s easy to forget to talk to our children when we are busy in the supermarket or when the house is full of people and activity. Just keep in mind that your child can benefit from listening to you in such challenging situations.
How to Assess
Method: Observe your child when she is listening to one adult in a noisy environment.
Score plus if she continues to attend to the speaker despite the environmental noise.
