RL.C.48 POINTS TO 6 OBJECTS WHEN DESCRIBED BY FUNCTION, CHOICE OF 6
These 2 items extend RL.C.46, in which the child was required to select 2 objects from a choice of 4, when described by their function.
Using 6 objects, assess as in RL.C.46, scoring plus as follows:
- If your child selects 4 or 5 of the 6 objects, score plus for RL.C.47.
- If your child selects all 6 items, score plus for RL.C.47 and RL.C.48.
Teach as in RL.C.46, presenting a choice of 6 objects.
Once your child can select 6 items when they are described by their functions, it will probably be unnecessary to teach further examples in special teaching sessions. But do keep including new examples in your round-the-house activities, and check from time to time that she can select these new objects when they are presented together in groups.
This activity provides a useful background to the teaching of action words and phrases in a child’s expressive language or communication program.
When your child can say the necessary action words or phrases, she will be able to tell how objects are used when asked ‘What do you do with a …?’
