RL.D.40 FOLLOWS TWO-WORD DIRECTIONS, CHOICE OF 3 OBJECTS AND 4 ACTIONS
This activity continues on from RL.D.39, increasing the range of choices open to the child.
How to Assess
Materials: 3 small toys well known to the child. Refer to RL.D.39.
Method: Put the 3 toys on the table. Using action words taught in RL.D.29, 30 and 38, give your child a direction involving one of the objects and one of the actions. Give 5 such directions, using each of the 4 action words at least once.
As an example, let’s say your objects are Dolly, Puppy and Cow, and your actions are jump, pat, kiss and cuddle. Your directions might be:
‘Jump Dolly.’
‘Kiss Puppy.’
‘Jump Cow.’
‘Cuddle Puppy.’
‘Pat Cow.’
If you are using actions which require props, such as ‘sleep’ or ‘sit’, put your chair, bed or whatever on the table but keep it slightly to one side, away from your 3 dolls and/or animals, so that it doesn’t complicate your child’s choice of object.
How to Teach
Teach as for RL.D.39.
