RL.E Responding to Directions Involving Attribute Words
Attribute words are words which tell us more about an object or an action. Attribute words describe objects and actions.
Attribute words help us to give colour and life to our expressive language and help us to be more precise in the way we talk about things. Understanding them prepares the child to use them in her own speech, and also helps her to respond more accurately to the conversation of others.
To progress through this sequence, your child need not be able to say the words. She shows that she understands the words by following directions involving attributes. Usually, she is asked to choose between alternatives on the basis of a particular attribute – for instance, choosing the big one or choosing the rough one.
If your child is talking, encourage her to say the words, as well as following the directions. You will find suggestions for helping her to use such words in her communications with others in Book 3, Chapter 3.
