Small Steps was developed as an early intervention program for children with developmental delays. The program was created by Moira Pieterse and Robin Treloar with input from Sue Cairns, Diana Uther and Erica Brar. It was first published in 1989 with copyright owned by Moira Pieterse and Robin Treloar.
Content on smallstepsprogram.com has been published with permission from Robin Treloar who provided a copy of Small Steps for this purpose. Unfortunately a digital copy of Small Steps was not available so we have had to scan in each page of each book manually using optical character recognition (ocr) and then review and fix the content where needed. We started doing this ourselves and then outsourced this proof reading work on Upwork.com.
Small Steps has been used, adapted and evolved all over the world. However, to the best our knowledge, has not been made available in a digital format. We have come across it a number of the times over the years and used it with our son particularly in his first few years. We even came across a version of it begin used in the Netherlands so we know it is has broad appeal and remains useful despite being first published almost 30 years ago. We hope that this website is useful to parents, carers and educators in assisting children with disabilities and more generally for any child with any form of developmental delay. We hope to improve the website over time to ensure it stays current and useful.
