GM.C.126 CLIMBS UP AND DOWN A 3 METRE LADDER OR FRAME
This skill is a direct progression from the other climbing skills on this sequence and shows how competent the child has become in the climbing area.
How to Assess
Materials: A wooden or metal ladder or climbing frame.
Method: Ask your child to climb up the ladder and down again. Score plus if your child can climb up to at least 3 metres and down again, without assistance.
How to Teach
The first few times your child attempts a ladder of this height, climb up behind her. Once you feel she can manage alone, ask her to climb up and down while you wait at the bottom.
The hard thing (for you) is to walk away, leaving her to climb on her own. Once she has done it successfully a couple of times, you will be able to relax!
