GM.D.85 WALKS INTO A LARGE BALL, ATTEMPTING TO KICK IT
Here the child shows that she has a concept of kicking and can control her walk to the extent that she makes contact with a ball on the floor.
How to Assess
Materials: A light rubber ball, soccer ball size.
Method: Place the ball on the floor a few paces from your child and ask her to kick it, demonstrating if necessary. Score plus if your child attempts to kick the ball without overbalancing. The child at this stage will ‘walk into’ the ball and will move it forward by bumping it with her leg.
How to Teach
Begin by placing the ball at your child’s feet, while she is standing still, and asking her to kick it.
Hold her hand to begin with, to give her balance.
When she can kick the ball from a standing position without your help, start placing it a short distance away from her, so that she needs to walk to it in order to kick.
