GM.D.129 TAKES A RUNNING KICK AT A BALL (MAY MISS IT)

In GM.D.109, the child was required to run up to a ball and kick it but a pause before kicking was acceptable. Now, a smoother execution of the running and kicking movements is required. The child should plan her aim before she starts to run, and should run up to the ball and kick it without stopping.

How to Assess

Assess as in GM.D.109. Score plus if your child runs up to the ball, lands on the appropriate foot, takes the kicking foot behind her, swings through and kicks at the ball. It is the ability to plan and execute the movements in a smoother manner that counts at this stage, so you can still score plus if your child misses the ball.

How to Teach

Plenty of practice, following on from GM.D.109, will perfect this skill. Opportunities to play with other children or enthusiastic adults will help too.
