FM.G.55 TURNS 2 OR 3 PAGES OF A PAPER BOOK AT A TIME
Turning paper pages is considerably harder than turning cardboard pages, largely because of the difficulty of separating a single page from the rest. We present 2 levels at which the skill can be assessed, but all teaching can be done as described under FM.G.64 (turns pages of a paper book singly).
When you are choosing your child’s first paper books, look for simple, colourful picture books and short stories which show a picture for every event.
How to Assess
Materials: A child’s picture book with paper pages.
Method: Demonstrate turning a page and ask your child to turn a page. Give several tries.
Score plus if your child turns 2 or 3 pages at a time without assistance.
How to Teach
Teach as for FM.G.64, praising your child for turning small groups of pages to start with, and then aiming for single pages.
