FM.H.52 INVERTS A SMALL BOTTLE TO OBTAIN A RAISIN IN IMITATION

Your child can solve this problem if he copies what you do.

How to Assess

Materials: A small clear glass bottle about 8 cm high, such as an empty medicine or food colouring bottle. Raisins.

Method: Place the raisin in the bottle and show your child. Then tip over the bottle and find the raisin. Put in another raisin and give the bottle to your child.

Score plus if your child tips the bottle over so that the raisin falls out, and then looks for the raisin.

How to Teach

Eating the raisin is a wonderful reinforcement for this activity! Teach through repeated demonstrations and physical help if necessary. The latter should be gradually reduced as your child gets the idea.

Playtime and Round-the-house Activities

Practise this skill with a variety of clear, easy-to-hold containers. The tipping action can be practised in the bath – it’s fun to watch the water pour out. Sand pours well too.

Remembering and Extending

Once your child has mastered this skill, you will stop giving demonstrations, as explained in FM.H.57.
