GM.A.55 GETS FROM STANDING TO SITTING ON FLOOR BY FALLING

You may have found your child standing, clinging to the furniture and screaming, because she does not know how to lower herself to the floor. In her first attempts to solve this problem for herself, she just lets go and falls. What she has not yet learned to do is bend her knees in standing to gently lower to the floor. If your child is not attempting to lower herself, you will not want to teach her to fall! Instead, look ahead to the methods described in GM.A.62.

How to Assess

Method: Observe your child while she is standing at a chest-high table. Score plus if she is able to let go of the furniture and fall back to a sitting position.
