GM.A.58 CRUISES AROUND FURNITURE, SEMI-TURNED IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
This is a direct progression from GM.A.56. Now the baby is able to semi-turn in the direction of travel. This is a more mature walking movement, involving slight rotation of the pelvis and flexion of the leg.
How to Assess
Method: Place your child so that she is standing at a low table. Use toys to encourage her to cruise around the table. Score plus if your child travels around the table, half-turned in the direction of her travel.
How to Teach
Once your child is competently stepping sideways, as in GM.A.56, start taking the toys off the table and holding them just out from the table, so that she must half-turn to see them. With practice, she should soon learn to cruise in this way.
