GM.B.116 WALKS FORWARD, BACKWARD, SIDEWAYS, HAULING LARGE TOYS

This is an extension of GM.B,93 (pushes and pulls large toys). Now the child moves large objects freely in all directions and can readily remove them from tight corners. She is using her strength and balance to help her solve problems.

How to Assess

Materials: Large cardboard boxes with toys in them.

Method: Set up an obstacle course which has at least 2 corners and at least 1 tight space, or tunnel, through which the box must be hauled.

Demonstrate taking a toy for ride in the box around the course. Score plus if your child can haul the box around the course, getting it around the corners and through the tight spaces without any assistance.

How to Teach

Continuing on from GM.B.93, make your obstacle course more and more challenging. Many children’s playgrounds incorporate tunnels made from large pipes. Indoor courses can be made bu rearranging the furniture.
