GM.B.75 WALKS ALONE, ARMS FREE AND RELAXED
As your child gains control of her walking, her arms will relax from the high position described in GM.B.72.
How to Assess
Method: Observe your child as she walks. Score plus if your child walks with her arms down. She should be able to move her arms freely as she walks.
How to Teach
Your child will gain the necessary control with practice.
Encourage her to walk as often as possible. It is often easier and quicker to carry her, but plan to let her walk to her bath, to dinner, to the car and so on. Give her plenty of opportunities to walk outdoors. The more ground surfaces she experiences, the better. Introduce her to uneven and sloping surfaces (both up and down) and to soft surfaces such as sand. What about walking across your bed? This is lots of fun!
