RL.D.66 FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS INVOLVING 3 ACTIONS AND 3 OBJECTS WITHIN EACH DIRECTION, ANYWHERE IN THE ROOM

This activity is excellent for developing listening skills and memory.

Assess and teach for RL.D.65, giving directions of the form ‘Do this, then do that and then do the other’. Involve 3 different actions and 3 different objects in each direction.

Note that it is usually not important that the child carries out the actions in the same order that you name them, though it is wise to stick to this order when you are helping her.

Extend this skill to round-the-house and play situations, as in RL.D.65.

If opportunities to give three-step directions do not arise naturally, put time aside to play remembering games with your child, offering the challenge of 3 actions to remember and follow. This is even more fun if other children take turns to remember too.
